Last week the pic above went viral with many blogs claiming that another student was found dead in a hotel in Lagos. The report claimed that the victim is a girl named Florence Ngwu, a 300L student of University of Nigeria. Erm, no such thing happened in real life. This is a photo from a movie called Murder at Prime Suite Hotel, a fiction but similar to the Cynthia Osogwu murder story. The character's name is Florence Ngwu played by an actress. The movie stars Joseph Benjamin and Chelsea Eze. The producers of the movie have released a statement. Kano State Governor, Engr. Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, this morning visited the scene of last night’s Boko Haram bombings in Sabon Gari area. The governor described the bombings as an "attack against Nigeria," and called on the people of the state to continue to be vigilant and to avail the government and security agencies of valuable information in the fight against terrorism. Kwankwaso, who was on his way to Sokoto, arrived at the scene during heavy rain.  He also visited hospitals where those injured in the blasts are recuperating. Below are the pictures :

The Federal Government has appealed to university students and their parents to be patient as negotiations are ongoing with striking university lecturers. Briefing journalists after the weekly meeting of the Executive Council of the Federation, FEC, the Information Minister, Labaran Maku, said government was worried because the disruption of the university calendar comes at a social cost to government. “We are appealing to our people, particularly parents and children of this nation, to bear with us, to show more understanding and we pray that this type of strike will not reoccur; because the public school system suffers a lot of damage with the perennial strikes,” Mr. Maku said. University lecturers, ASUU, have been on strike for over four weeks demanding that the government fully implement a 2009 agreement it had with the union. The government insists it wants a renegotiation of the some parts of the agreement claiming the agreement was not signed by the Goodluck

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) yesterday confirmed it has registered the All Progressives Congress (APC). A statement signed by the Secretary to the commission, Abdullahi A. Kaugama, said the applicant-parties: the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN), the All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP) and the Congress for Progressive Change (CPC), had met all statutory requirements for their merger application. “The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has approved the application by three political parties –– to merge into one, to be known as the All Progressives Congress,” the statement said. The individual certificates of the applicant parties were therefore withdrawn, and a single certificate issued in the name of the All Progressives Congress.  PDP !!! WATCHOUT !!!

A driver in court for speeding at 165mph told judges 'I'm still going to drive; catch me if you can' as they banned him from the roads for three years. Shiad Mahmoon, 24, was going so fast that police needed a helicopter to keep up with him, a court heard. The driver was clocked speeding on the M57 in Merseyside in a hired Audi R8 Spyder by police who videoed him in the helicopter. Liverpool Magistrates' Court was told the speed was the fastest ever recorded by Merseyside Police. Mahmoon, who is unemployed, may have recorded an even higher top speed as police estimated his average was between 144mph and 165mph on the stretch of motorway. The court heard that the helicopter spotted the car hurtling down the M57 towards the junction with the M62 at around 5am on June 26, 2011. Prosecutor Sue Jones said a nearby patrol car was radioed and a dramatic pursuit culminated with Mahmoon pulling over on the M62 near  Burtonwood services, car keys in hand. Police

A baby weighing almost a stone and measuring 22.6 inches long has been born in Germany. Baby Jasleen arrived on July 26 and weighed a massive 13.47 pounds. Babies her size are usually born via a caesarean section, she was born naturally. The mother gave birth at University Hospital in Leipzig and discovered she had a previously undiagnosed case of gestational diabetes, German newspaper Der Spiegel reports. This condition, which develops at around the 24th week of pregnancy, can lead to a larger than usual baby size. Although both mother and daughter are doing well, Jasleen remains in the neonatal care unit. She is now officially the largest new-born in Germany. (UK Daily Mail)

The first day it opened it was like a tourist site, but the Ibadan people have since found their way back to their local markets...lol. Barely a month after the grand opening of Shoprite at Heritage Cocoa Mall, on Oba Adebimpe Road, Dugbe, Ibadan, Oyo State, the retail store has been hit with low patronage. The number of Ibadan people who go there to buy things have reduced drastically. Some residents blame it on the prices of goods at shoprite. While some say it's cheaper to buy some goods from their local markets than from shoprite, others say though it's cheaper to buy from shoprite than the stores in their neighborhood, the difference isn't much and the transport fare to go to shoprite and back isn't worth it, so they stick to shops in their area. The most patronized commodity at shoprite Ibadan is the freshly baked bread, everything else na manage...:-) Though people go there a lot on the weekends...just to look around.

Nigerian striker Michael Eneramo will earn €1.2 million (which is over N 255million) per year after signing a two year deal with Turkish side, Besiktas. He will also earn €10,000 per-match bonus.   Former Birmingham City striker Christian Benítez died in hospital in Qatar today from complications leading to cardiac arrest at the age of 27. The striker from Ecuador died just weeks after a £10million move to Qatar side, El Jaish. The Ecuadorian Football Federation said on their website that Benitez 'had severe stomach pain, was rushed to a hospital, where after a few hours suffered cardio respiratory arrest, which ended his life.'  Christian is survived by his wife, children and his father, former Ecuador international footballer Ermen Benítez. From November 2013, Nigeria will be among the six listed Commonwealth 'high risk' countries whose citizens will be required to pay £3,000 tourists visa bond before they are allowed into the UK. The remaining five are: India, Kenya, Sri Lanka, Pakistan and Bangladesh. But here's what the UK government are saying to pacify citizens of these countries who are outraged by this new policy. They say it's not all visitors that will be required to pay the bond, just people they consider 'highest risk'; that is people who will collect visa and refuse to leave Britain or overstay their visa terms. Those paying bonds will receive the bond back, if they abided by the terms of their visa.
